Kinesiology

From injury recovery to performance enhancement, our kinesiologists design movement-based programs that support long-term health and functional strength.

What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is the science of human movement, focused on improving physical function, strength, and overall well-being. At Focus Physio + Wellness, our university-trained kinesiologists design and implement personalized exercise programs that support recovery, prevent injury, and enhance performance in everyday life and sport.

With expertise in ergonomics, occupational health, chronic pain management, and athletic training, our kinesiologists work one-on-one with clients to build strength, restore mobility, and manage conditions through movement. Whether you’re healing from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or working toward new fitness goals, we’re here to support your progress with hands-on guidance and evidence-based care.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

During your first visit, one of our kinesiologists will discuss the reason for your visit and review your health history. Next, they will complete an assessment to determine your current level of strength, range of motion, and muscle activation patterns. The therapist may also use functional movement screening to assist in their exam. The results of the assessment will be discussed with you and used to prescribe exercises that will assist in reaching your specific goals. An exercise home program will also be developed, practiced, and provided via email.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do your kinesiologists offer personal training sessions?
Yes, we do. Our kinesiologists are trained in strength and conditioning and are able to build an exercise program to improve athletic performance or increase resilience to injury. For clients returning to working out following an injury, or looking to make changes to their strength training routines, kinesiology sessions are a great option.
Do your kinesiologists offer Active Rehab?
Yes, we do. For individuals that have been injured in a car accident after April 1st, 2019, 12 Active Rehabilitation sessions are preapproved by ICBC. Please contact the clinic for details.
Is kinesiology covered under my extended health benefits plan?
While the awareness of the profession and the recognition of how a kinesiologist can be part of our health care team is expanding, most extended health care plans do not offer coverage for kinesiology. For further information please contact you extended health plan insurer (eg. Pacific Blue Cross, Great West Life etc.) or speak to your employer.
What are the differences between a spa massage and a massage at Focus Physio + Wellness?
Stereotypically, a spa massage (which may or may not be performed by a RMT) tends to be relaxing and gentle, while a massage at Focus done by one of our RMTs is designed to address muscle tension, soreness, and restriction. In addressing these issues, we hope to achieve improvements in pain and mobility.
